What is Botox®?

Botox^® is a purified protein derived from Clostridium botulinum that, when administered in controlled doses, temporarily reduces muscle activity. In a dental setting, Botox^® may be considered for therapeutic support or cosmetic concerns related to facial muscle movement.

Cosmetic Botox®

Cosmetic Botox^® may be used to address concerns related to facial muscle movement. By reducing activity in selected muscles, treatment may help soften the appearance of expression-related lines or manage dentofacial aesthetic concerns, such as a high lip line.

Areas of interest may include the forehead, brow region, areas around the eyes or mouth, and facial movement patterns affecting the smile. All cosmetic recommendations are individualized, and outcomes vary by patient.

Therapeutic Botox®

Therapeutic Botox^® may be considered when muscle overactivity contributes to dental or jaw-related concerns. It may be incorporated into treatment planning for conditions such as:

• Clenching or grinding (bruxism)
• Muscle-related jaw tension
• Certain TMJ-related symptoms, depending on diagnosis
